Days of the magic sponge are numbered at Chichester City

Chichester City have secured a sponsorship deal with Poole-based Koolpak for the new season which will see them replace the traditional cold-water sponge with hi-tech instant ice packs for on-pitch bumps.

The club will be supplied with first-aid kits containing items including instant ice packs, bandages, freeze spray and physio gloves.

City chairman Oliver Adnan, who helped secure the deal just in time for the new season, said: “We’re very grateful to the directors of Koolpak who agreed to supply the medical kits for the upcoming season.

“They are not an optional piece of kit so the donation is much appreciated. We have relatively a small squad, so ensuring we can treat the players instantly is essential to ensure they are kept as injury-free as possible.

“The instant ice packs are especially useful to minimise bumps and strains and a big move up from the traditional cold-water sponge.”

Martyn Bright, managing director of Koolpak, said: “We understand the challenges non-league clubs have in financing equipment such as this, so we are very happy to be able to link up with Chichester.

“Hopefully they won’t need to use the medical pack too much, however it will be there if they require it. I trust it will assist in a successful season for the club.”

Koolpak do a lot of work with football associations across the south.
