Debutant Edwards hits ground running with stoppage time winner for Dockers

An injury time winner from debutant Lawrence Edwards saw Newhaven beat 10-man Westfield 3-2 on Saturday.

It was a dramatic finish to a game that swung one way then the other in a frantic first half. Tom Archer had given the hosts an early lead but Dave Altendorff levelled from the penalty spot.

Richie Watton put Newhaven ahead after 15 minutes but Dan Woodley got his team level when he headed in from a free kick. Sam Henham was sent off for serious foul play as the hosts lost control with a couple of late challenges.

Westfield’s 10 men had the best chance of the second half but deep in to stoppage time Edwards came off the bench to fire in from a tight angle to give the Dockers victory. They had made one change from the starting line-up against Rustington. Freddie Beale dropped to the bench as Daniel Murray replaced him at left back.
