Defeats for Common and Bexhill

Little Common and Bexhill United suffered home defeats last night (Tuesday).

Common went down 2-0 at the hands of Seaford Town and Bexhill lost 3-1 to Loxwood in Division Two of the Sussex County Football League.

A goal in either half ended Common’s three-match winning run in the league. Lucas Mann opened the scoring in the 20th minute and Tom Chapman’s 73rd minute penalty made sure of Seaford’s win.

Later the same evening, Bexhill fell behind to a Damon Aston strike in only the seventh minute, but a terrific free kick from Ben White had them level at half time.

Aston restored Loxwood’s advantage in the 75th minute, however, and Tony Nwachukwu ended Bexhill’s resistance as the clock ticked into added time. Bexhill can no longer finish in the three promotion places.

Full reports on both matches will appear in Friday’s Bexhill Observer.

Sidley United are all but guaranteed the Reserve Section (East) title, meanwhile, after second-placed Rye United were held to a 1-1 draw at home to AFC Uckfield.

Sidley themselves are in action tonight with a Reserve Section Challenge Cup semi-final against higher grade Hassocks at Ringmer FC, kick-off 7.30pm.
