And he was present to collect his award in the Victory Lounge at the group’s annual Fratton Park meal on Saturday night.

The former Sheffield United player has established himself as a regular in the side this season, making 44 appearances.

Those consistent displays have now been acknowledged by supporters, with seven matches of the campaign remaining.

The well-attended evening also saw long-serving Blues kitman Kev McCormack honoured with the Phil Patrick Trophy.

McCormack, who has worked at Pompey for the past 18 years, was handed the award in recognition of his service to the club.

Phil Patrick was one of the founder members of the London Pompey Supporters’ Club and previous recipients have included Linvoy Primus, Jimmy Dickinson, Barry Harris and Johnny Moore.

McCormack remains a popular figure behind the scenes at Fratton Park and was handed the award by long-time friend Bob Beech.

Pompey boss Paul Cook, who was in attendance, also paid tribute to the former Commonwealth Games boxer during a Q&A.

Also present were skipper Michael Doyle, Kyle Bennett, assistant manager Leam Richardson, coach Robbie Blake, chairman Iain McInnes and chief executive Mark Catlin.

Since the event was introduced to the Pompey calendar three years ago following the installation of community ownership, it has grown in size.

Last season Jed Wallace was crowned the group’s Player of the Season, the midfielder later sweeping up in terms of other fan accolades.

Among those was The News/Sports Mail’s coveted trophy.

Davies’ recognition on Saturday night is an intriguing first indication of how the voting could pan out this season.

The veteran has become a firm favourite among the Fratton faithful through his tireless displays from right-back.

Aside from being a member of the tightest defence in League Two, Davies has also weighed in with numerous assists.

A free-transfer arrival from Bramall Lane in the summer, supporters will be hoping he stays beyond his initial 12-month contract.
