The match on Tuesday was EP’s 16th in the last 38 days and Di Paola said: “We’re really happy to have won.

“Cup finals are often really rubbish and it was always going to be unlikely that we’d have a final like we did last year when we beat Littlehampton (5-1).

“The most important thing was the win. We had nothing about us as we were so tired from all the games we’ve had to play, so just tried to scrap it out.”

On the penalty, Di Paola said: “It was definitely a penalty. Joe Shelley got past him and he brought him down. They were frustrated with the decision as they played really well and, on another day, could have won.

“We were just out on our feet. We had players playing out of position and had players playing with injuries.

“I’m really pleased to have won and am pleased for everyone at the club as well.”
