A Sam Divall double helped free-scoring Hailsham Town to a 4-1 victory at Chichester City on Saturday.
Jamie Salvage opened the scoring after just four minutes and Divall put the Stringers two in front just ten minutes later.
Defender Joey Pout put them in complete control shortly after the half-hour mark and Divall made sure of maximum points in the 65th minute.
Kieran Hartley did pull a goal back for the hosts but it was too little too late as the Stringers closed the gap on the sides in front of them.
Hailsham are up to 16th in Sussex Division One and are now within three points of Chichester in 13th.
Ian Stevens’ side turn their attention to the cup tonight. They host Wick & Barnham in the quarter-final of the Peter Bentley Cup.
Kick off is 7.45 at the Beaconsfield.
