Newhaven extended their lead at the top of Division Two to six points, after a 5-2 win against Midhurst & Easebourne at Fort Road.
All seven goals came in a crazy first half as the Dockers looked to run riot against their West Sussex opponents.
Richie Watton poked home to put Newhaven ahead before Naim Rouane curled in a sublime free-kick. Gary Norgate halved the deficit but two Lee Robinson goals gave Newhaven a three-goal advantage. Luke Shelgate got a second Midhurst goal before Ebou Jallow made it 5-2 before half-time. Robinson should have completed his hat-trick and Graham Leach made a good save as no further goals followed in the second half.
Newhaven made two changes from the midweek cup victory at Saltdean. Daniel Muray replaced Matt Harrison, who dropped to the Reserves, and Sean Breach returned in midfield, in place of the unavailable Mark Probert.
There was a minute’s silence held before the game in memory of Corporal David O’Connor, 27, from 40 Commando Royal Marines, who died in an incident in Nahr-e Saraj in Helmand Province. David was a friend and team-mate of the Midhurst players.
DOCKERS: Leach, Knight, Robinson, Breach, Murray, Watton, Goddard, Altendorff, S Edwards, Rouane, Jallow.
