The new boss has already brought in centre-half Marc Pullan, left-back Mitchell Hand and midfielder Kevin Keehan, and more arrivals are likely.

He said: “We’ve got to get more depth into the squad, but those three have helped. Pullers and Kev have put a bit more bite into the spine. I think there will be two or three more over the next month.”

Di Paola is conscious of a lack of cover for injuries in attack and defence, and says there isn’t a huge amount of different options in midfield.

Summer signing Jahmahl King, meanwhile, left United last weekend to seek a club closer to home.

“I understand he travels miles and I wouldn’t want to sit on the bench if I was doing that journey,” added Di Paola. “There might be another one not getting enough football for his liking, but to be honest I expected more.”

The club is running coaches to the FA Trophy first round qualifying tie away to Cray Wanderers on Sunday and league match at Whyteleafe the following Saturday, leaving The Pilot Field at 12noon and 11.45am respectively.
