Eastbourne Borough are voting for the National League to play on - and for its divisions not be split up so some can play and others have to stop.

Clubs through the National League's premier, south and north divisions are all being asked whether they want to play on while issues over government funding are resolved and assurances over a new round of grant and loan help are sought.

Borough have been clear throughout the saga that they are first and foremost a community football club and feel they should carry on playing if they can.

A statement from the board of directors at Priory Lane today says: "There has been a great deal of media, and online coverage of the current funding issues facing all clubs across the National League. Throughout, our position as a club has been clear, we are primarily a Football Club and as such we should be exploring every available option available to us in order to continue playing football, along with our wider work in the community.

"Whilst we fully respect that every club has its own issues, agendas and opinions, we sincerely hope that we will be able to continue this season to a conclusion. We also hope that all clubs respect and abide by the democratic result of the resolutions put forward by the league. We will certainly be respectful of the decision of the majority, even if it is a result we have not voted for.

"After much discussion throughout the club, the Board of Directors have decide to vote on the resolutions in the following manner.

"Resolution One: We will be voting against this resolution – We do not believe that steps 1 and 2 should be separated in any way, they operate together as the National League and should continue to do so. We were against the recent two week suspension of step 2, which saw step 1 continue playing, and we believe any further fraction would be damaging to the brand.

"Resolution Three and Four: We will be voting against both resolutions – We do not agree with the season being ended and declared Null and Void. As a club we have we have already accepted grants and funding to allow us to play throughout the season to date, and to do so in a safe and secure environment due to specific Covid readiness grants.

"Alongside this, we have had the full support of our fans and sponsors through Season ticket sales, streaming income and sponsorship which has allowed us not only to play football, but also to continue to be a big part of the community at large. To end the season and see this all wasted would be wrong in our view.

"Whilst we continue to believe that there should be grants available rather than loans, we are prepared to look at all options. We will continue to budget and forecast responsibly, taking all situations into account, and we will live within our means whilst fighting to remain competitive.

"Stay Safe. One Club, One Community."
