Eastbourne Town defeat overhadowed by serious injury

They are stuck on four points after four Southern Combination premier division games after their latest fixture ended in a 1-0 loss at AFC Uckfield.

Daniel Perry scored the only goal 15 minutes from time in a game marred by a nasty head injury duffered by Eastbourne’s Zac Attwood.

He was taken to hospital but later discharged to recover at home. Town thanked everyone who tended to the player.

Eastbourne United have a big game – it’s third versus second when they make the short trip to Saltdean.

Langney are without an SCFL premier win so far but will aim to put that right when they visit Alfold.

* Football returned to The Red Lion Field as Magham Down kick-started their season with a 3-1 victory against Sedlescombe Rangers Development in their opening East Sussex League division four.

Down included three new signings in their squad and two provided the goals.

Dash Bourne lobbed the keeper in the first half only for the visitors to level after the break, but a double from Will Napier-Brown ensured the hosts secured all three points. Down travel to Hooe tomorrow in the Division 4/5 Cup (2.30pm).

* Polegate Town beat Copthorne 4-0 in the Mid Sussex Championship. Goals from Elliott McWilton, George Whitley, Robbie Callingham and Ellis Jewell secured the three points. Town’s seconds lost 2-1 to Ringmer AFC thirds in Division 3 South. Ronnie Dicks scored their goal.
