Eastbourne Town manager Lambert targets new striker after injury to top scorer Dan Perry

Eastbourne Town manager John Lambert is looking to add more firepower to his squad after it was revealed that top goal scorer Dan Perry (right) will be out for a prolonged period of time.

Town ground out a 0-1 win at Little Common this past Saturday thanks to Samuel Carrington’s strike seven minutes into the second half, their fourth consecutive clean sheet. But Lambert knows his side must be more prolific with a tough run of games approaching, starting with the visit of fellow promotion chasers Pagham tomorrow, (Saturday, 3pm).

“We’re becoming hard to score against but we’re going to start playing the better sides now, so it will be interesting to gage ourselves against Pagham because they’re right up there,” explained Lambert.

“It’s always a tough game against Pagham but we’re going into it in good form with good confidence, but we just need to start scoring more goals.

“We have had the same back four for the last five or six games. Tom Vickers has come in and made a big difference and adds a calmness back there and Dan Tear is back from injury as well, so it is quite an experienced back four.

“I’m trying to get another striker in for the weekend because Dan Perry (left) is going to be out for longer than we thought.

“We were hoping to get him back next week but that is looking a bit premature now and we need a little bit more firepower while he’s out for a month. “Maybe we can bring someone in on loan. I have started the procedure, but it is a case of whether we can finish it and get him in on time for Saturday.”

Lambert also called on Town’s loyal supporters, Pier Pressure, to turn out in force for the next three games, Pagham, Abbey Rangers (FA Vase) and Worthing in the Senior Cup. “All are massive games,” said Lambert. “We will need the fans behind us.”
