‘Embarrassing’ Westies hit for six

“Embarrassing” was how Westfield Football Club manager Jack Stapley described his team’s heavy defeat on Saturday afternoon.

The Westies were hammered 6-1 away to a Clymping side which went into the Macron Store Southern Combination Football League Division Two game bottom of the table and without a win.

Stapley said: “It was embarrassing to be honest from start to finish. If we could’ve made 11 subs at half time we would’ve done. It was a shambles really.

“We were missing eight players from the week before so it was never going to be easy, but the players that came in have been banging on the door for a chance to show what they can do and ultimately they didn’t show anything to be honest. The only ones to come out of it with any credit were Matt Dadswell and Zac Hurst.”

Westfield were 4-0 down at half time and the first three goals were very similar, with the visitors caught out of position.

Westfield tried to restore a bit of pride during a much better start to the second half before experiencing a lacklustre 20 minutes or so.

The Westies did at least score possibly their best goal of the season to make it 4-1. Sam Ellis took on a couple of players before rounding the goalkeeper and slotting home.

Clymping went straight up the other end to score their fifth, though, and added another late on to cap a day Westfield will want to quickly forget.

Westfield: Cullip; Willis, Drinkwater, Paine, Durrant; Ugbene (Jackson), Bell, Ward (McGurk), Hurst, Dadswell (Stapley); Ellis.
