‘Enforced mid-winter break’ could see Crawley Town bring a stronger side to Newhaven on Tuesday

Richie Barker says the enforced mid-winter break might mean a stronger-than-expected Crawley Town side taking on Newhaven in the Sussex Senior Cup next Tuesday.

The Reds travel to Fort Road for a third round tie next Tuesday (weather permitting).

The postponement of Saturday’s game against Carlisle and the fact the Reds have no fixture next weekend means that by the time the League One side entertain Preston on January 29 it will have been 17 days since their last competitive action.

Speaking on the club’s website, www.crawleytownfc.com, Reds boss Barker said: “There are probably a few lads who could do with some minutes so I imagine the side that goes down there will be quite strong.

“Hopefully the weather will have relented and we can get the game on.”

Newhaven FC have tweeted a picture of their Fort Road pitch under a layer of snow. “We’ve had a ‘washout’, now we have a ‘whiteout’,” said the caption accompanying the picture (above).
