The second-round clash at The Lashmar was far from a classic, but a goal in each half from the home side was enough to see them through.

EP went ahead on 33 minutes when Charlie Farmer got in around the back and netted from an Adam Hunt free kick.

The game ebbed and flowed either side of half-time with Wick working hard, but failing to create any clear-cut chances. Shaheen Sadough headed in EP’s second on 66 minutes after good work between Farmer and Tom Levitt.

EP had two late scares after goalkeeper Joel Harding gifted the ball away, but recovered to make the save, before an Alex Duncan back pass saw a Wick player nip in and round Harding, but hit the side netting.

EP manager Dominic Di Paola said: “We changed almost everyone, so a lot of changes affected the flow of the team, but in fairness to the players a few of them haven’t played in a while, so it’s not their fault they are a bit rusty.

“We won the game, but we did not win it convincingly. They were really up for it and that’s a good thing, so fair play to them.”
