EP book spot in RUR Cup semi-finals

EAST Preston Football Club booked their place in the semi-finals of the Sussex RUR Cup, where they will face league rivals Peacehaven, after a comfortable win on Tuesday.

Goals from Shaun Charles, Rob Boddy and a Craig Grantham double secured the victory, despite missing nine first-team players and disrupted preparations.

An accident meant the majority of the EP side did not arrive until 7.25pm, with kick-off originally set for 7.15pm

Despite this, Charles opened the scoring after just eight minutes as he fired into the top corner from the edge of the box. Boddy doubled their lead just seven minutes later as he drove past two defenders and drilled low into the net.

Grantham netted twice in two minutes just after the hour-mark. The first after good work from Foreman and the second after having chased down the centre-half.

EP coach Jan Miller said: “It was quite comfortable considering we had nine first-team players missing and three reserve team players steping up. The reserve guys, Declan Jenkins, goalkeeper Ben Rose and Ash Finch all had really good games, as did Craig Grantham.

Peacehaven are a few points ahead in the league and it’ll be a tough game as they’re a good side but we’re looking forward to it. We really want to try to win a trophy and this is probably our best chance.”
