Erik Huseklepp: I would consider return to ‘amazing’ Pompey

The former fans’ favourite was an interested spectator as Paul Cook’s side played out a 0-0 draw against Accrington in League Two on Saturday.

Introduced to the Fratton faithful at half-time, ex-Norway international Huseklepp received a fine reception from the 15,745-strong crowd.

And with little more than a year to run on his contract with second-division Norwegian side SK Brann, the 31-year-old is not ruling out another south-coast reunion, although remains settled at the club he joined Pompey from in July 2012.

Huseklepp said: ‘If there was a place I wanted to go back to it is definitely Portsmouth because I really enjoyed my time there.

‘If the chance popped up again I would consider it because of the atmosphere.

‘Even though the club is in League Two, there are still 17,000 fans there.

‘The club is amazing and the fans are amazing.

‘It was very nice to be back, although I was very nervous.

‘My biggest fear was that people would not remember me and it would all turn quiet, so thank you to everyone that I got a very warm welcome.

‘I appreciated that and had a good feeling inside when I walked out on to the pitch.’

Having scored six goals in 27 Championship games following a £1.5m August 2011 arrival from Italian side Bari, Huseklepp was forced to leave administration-hit Pompey on loan for rivals Birmingham in February 2012.

And with the Blues unable to continue paying his wages following relegation to League One, a free transfer to his homeland and current club Brann ensued.
