As reported by www.hastingsunitedfc.co.uk, United’s search for additional defensive options has finally met with success, with boss Terry White having landed one of his big summer transfer targets in 31-year-old ex-professional Richard Rose.

Seen as a hugely versatile player, Rose began his career with Gillingham, where he graduated from the youth ranks to make his senior debut in April 2001.

Rose enjoyed several good seasons with the Kent club before a move to Hereford United, then newly-promoted back to the Football League, yielded 165 appearances in a successful five-year stint.

He returned to the south east and signed for Dagenham & Redbridge ahead of the 2011/12 campaign before moving on to Dartford a year later.

Rose spent last season playing for Whitehawk in Conference South, during which time a one-month loan spell with Maidstone United saw him play against the U’s in their 2-0 League Cup defeat at the Gallagher Stadium in December.

Over the course of his career, Rose has featured occasionally at centre-back and in central midfield, but it will be his vast experience in the full-back role that White will surely hope to exploit.
