Littlehampton finished third in the County League last season and the club wasted no time in adding experienced midfielder Daren Pearce to their squad this summer.

More experienced players could also be added for the new campaign and McAlees said: “Daren gives us the experience we were lacking last year.

“On certain occasions last year, we lost and drew games we should have won as some of the players did not have the know-how of the more seasoned pros.”

Golds will be looking to have another strong season this year and the vast majority of the team from last year will be back again this time out.

McAlees said: “We are going to keep a lot of the squad from last year.

“Hopefully, we will be able to achieve a finish in the top three again this season.

“With the young squad we have, we are looking to build and in a couple of seasons’ time go on and look to win it.

“We also want to continue to bring youngsters through our under-18 team and the reserve side.”
