Women’s FA Cup

A hat-trick for Lucie Challen and one goal each for Tammy Waine, Chloe Dowdell, Amy Found and Laura Ingram put City ladies through to round two of the FA Cup.

The visitors had beaten New Forest Ladies 12-0 in the previous round but there was never any chance of a repeat.

Chichester scored their first after three minutes, Challen finishing neatly at the back post after good work from Waine on the right. The second goal followed when a corner from Challen was met by the boot of Ingram for her first goal of the season.

Poole stood firm until the 25th minute when the referee awarded a penalty. Found stepped up and slotted home. Waine finished well to make it 4-0 at the break.

Chichester began the second half slowly and were punished as Poole pulled a goal back after good pressing.

After that, the Green Army continued their dominance but had to wait to the 65th minute for Dowdell to break free down the right and fire in across the keeper.

The home side were in complete control but with Poole defending in numbers they were finding it was not until the last ten minutes that they scored their final two, both from Challen to complete her hat-trick.

Chichester are at home on Sunday to Bexhill United in the Sussex Challenge Cup (2pm).

Army Ladies Res 0 Chi Ladies Dev Squad 7

With City’s development squad having a break from league games over the next two week, a friendly against the Army reserves was arranged.

After nine minutes, some excellent passing released Amy Bailey in behind the defenders and she slotted the ball calmly in the bottom corner. Bailey increased her tally to two on 16 minutes when a shot was parried away by the keeper.

The Army were limited to hopeful long shots which Galway dealt with.

Brooke Pallant delivered an inch-perfect cross for Ellis to head into the top corner for the third.

After the break, Ella Potter was a continuous threat down the right and linked well with Steph Mills, allowing Potter to release several shots on goal.

Potter delivered a corner which fell to Skye Gould, who released a superb volley past the keeper on 52 minutes to make it 4-0. Then Mills broke past the defence and smashed a screamer in the top corner to make it five on 67 minutes.

A corner fell to Natalie Clarke who made the score 6-0 and the scoring was complete as Mills was played through again and scored a goal similar to her first.

City’s seconds return to action away to Portsmouth on October 25.

Five Chichester players were called up to the Sussex ladies’ squad for a game versus Middlesex FA. Jade Widdows, Emma Alexandre, Shannon Albuery and Lucie Challen were all in the squad for the first time and Lauren Cheshire was again called up.

Widdows was on the scoresheet in the match.

Also for the first time in club history, two sisters have captained their respective youth sides on the same day. Alice Walford (U15) and Izzy Walford (U11) were both skippers - and both teams won.

Chi City girls’ under-11s played some really great football and are showing improvements each week.

They won their league game versus Worthing 4-0 through an own goal, two for Charlie Davey and one for Emily Butler) and then won 5-0 in the development game thanks to Emily Butler (2) Ellen Middleton (3).

City’s under-15 girls got the result their recent performances have deserved – they won 3-0 at home to Withdean. Goals were scored by Katie Lawrence, Loulou Robson and Grace Greenshields.

Robson has been called up by the Sussex Player Development Centre.

Chichester’s under-13 girls lost 7-0 at Eastbourne, but battled well until the end.
