Farrier steps down from Sidley role

It had been rumoured for several weeks that Farrier would be calling it a day at the end of the season and he confirmed this week that would be the case.

Farrier, who works as a postman, said: “I’m not going to be there next season. I’m disappointed not to be, but it’s been hard this year getting to games, especially away games, through work.

“Next year it’s going to be even harder with a different work pattern that we’ve got. At the moment I finish about 1.30pm on Saturdays and that’s going to be 2.30pm in the next month or so.”

Farrier and manager John Lambert came to the club in the summer of 2009, and they guided Sidley to promotion from Sussex County Football League Division Two in their first season after pipping Little Common to third place.

The Blues consolidated their Division One status with a 13th place finish in the 2010/11 campaign and improved slightly to 11th in the 2011/12 season which finished with a 3-0 loss at Pagham on Saturday.

Farrier was captain of the Sidley side which won the Sussex County League Division One and John O’Hara League Cup double in 2000/01 and considers Sidley as his club.
