Feelgood factor returns to Hastings

Jason Hopkinson says there is a good atmosphere building at Hastings United Football Club after “a fantastic week”.

The U’s picked up a morale-boosting point in their battle against relegation from the Ryman League Premier Division with a 1-1 draw away to high-riding Lowestoft Town last weekend.

And with results elsewhere going their way, Hastings remain in the final safe spot of fifth-bottom going into another important game at home to Tooting & Mitcham United on Saturday.

Hastings manager Hopkinson said: “It’s been a fantastic week. We had a really good (training) session on Monday and the lads were really buoyant. On Wednesday night as well (in a behind closed doors training game against Eastbourne Town) there was a little bit of banter and there were a few with a smile on their face.

“The lads believe in it and more importantly they believe in what I’m trying to do. I spoke to the lads and asked them if they were happy with me and happy with what I’m doing, and they’ve been very complimentary and very positive. The boys are capable. They’re bright, comfortable in possession and they want to play football.”

Hopkinson had hoped to field last weekend’s starting line-up again this weekend, but George Porter is very doubtful having suffered a shoulder injury training with parent club Leyton Orient this week.

Sam Adams and Ryan Storrie are struggling through illness, but Hopkinson is hopeful that both will recover.

Ashley Robinson played 60 minutes in the midweek training game and may come into the squad.
