Ferring frustate Bosham, but it's not all bad news

Bosham 1 Ferring 1

Sussex League division three

Bosham were frustrated by a dour draw at Walton Lane – although other results meant they closed the gap on Newhaven.

Paul Sumnall was a welcome sight on the bench for the Reds and it seemed to rub off on the players as chances came.

John Phillips showed superb control to create openings for Kieran Hartley and Joe Hancock, only for a combination of crossbar, post and good keeping by George Steele to keep them at bay.

At the other end Ferring were struggling to put moves together.

Bosham got their noses in front with a hotly-disputed opener just before the break. Hancock challenged Steele in the box, causing the keeper to drop the ball, enabling Hartley to smash the loose ball in. Referee Neil Saxton was happy with the goal.

In the second half, Ferring came out determined to get back into it.

Bosham moves broke down, passing was slack and frustrations caused needless fouls.

Ferring equalised with less than 20 minutes to go when the Reds failed to clear their lines and Ryan Warr popped in a terrific effort from the edge of the box past the outstretched hand of Simon Keene.

Bosham will have to up their game for the trip to Newhaven next week.

BOSHAM: Keene, Probee, Carrigher, Grantham, Hounsome, Miles, Hartley, Hancock, Phillips, Mullen, Rehill. Subs: Rawlings, Sumnall, Dowden.
