Few complaints from YM or Loxwood with draw after '˜very poor game'

Both the Horsham YMCA and Loxwood camps reflected on an uninspiring derby clash and had few complaints about the 0-0 result.

YM manager Peter Buckland was satisfied to take a hard-working showing from the Premier Division game after they had been without a game for two weeks.

He said: “I think for the last 15 minutes they realised it was going to peter out to a 0-0 draw and went for it a bit, but we created two or three goalline scrambles.

“Taking a step back, sometimes it is hard to be analytical in the heat of the moment after a game when you are a bit animated in there, but I guess 0-0 was about the right result, or a draw at least.

“Two sets of defences did well. They played three at the back with their wing-backs coming on and we tried to negate it and they tried to negate our system and I think we cancelled each other out tactically.

“From where we have been at and I’ve said it to them (the players), as much as a point or three points, whatever the case maybe, but it was about a performance and we put in a shift if not a classy performance.”

Magpies boss Mark Beard, while disappointed with the showing, was pleased they managed to take a point and keep a clean sheet.

He said: “It was a very poor game. There was a lack of quality and we have been playing really well. We are just disappointed as we looked to play the way we do, were making the right moves, but the pass never got there.

“We didn’t string three passes together all game. There was a lack of goalmouth activity at both ends and we felt when we did test their goalkeeper a couple of times, he was dropping it, but we just didn’t test him enough.

“It was one of those games and at least we didn’t lose, we kept a clean sheet and we will carry on doing what we are trying to do; play the right way, but you can’t play brilliant every week. It had 0-0 written all over it and we could have been here to next week and not scored.”

Buckland added: “Jonny (Phil Johnson) is still at a loss for why he was pulled up for a handball in the penalty area when he was about to knock it home. He is adamant he didn’t but hey ho.”
