Town were very slow to get started, and conceded a penalty as early as the fifth minute, but keeper Evans pulled off a stunning stop low down to his right just inside the post.

However the reprieve was only for a few minutes as Little Common took the lead through Denny as he pounced to fire home through a crowded area after Evans had parried a stinging drive.

Town were camped in Common’s half for long periods, but the visitors defended well and Steyning seemed to be lacking some creativity and invention in the final third.

The visitors came forward on 35 minutes, the ball was worked out to the right hand side, and a wicked in-swinging cross was turned away by Early but only as far as Morris who tucked away the chance.

Steyning enjoyed a lot of possession and territory in the second half but a lack of cutting edge was costing them. Rob Clark, in good form in recent games, wasted the best opportunity blazing over with ten minutes to go.

As the game was fizzling out, Greer decided to boot one of the Little Common players after an unfair challenge, earning a straight red card to end a quiet afternoon on a dramatic note.
