Both sides went into the game without a point in Southern Combination League Division 2 but Blues struck early and led 2-0 at half-time, before adding three more goals in the second half.

The match was Jon Tucker’s second since returning as Rustington manager and he was delighted with his side’s showing. He said: “The win has been a long time coming for the club this season and it was a pleasing performance.

“Going into the game all that mattered was three points, however they came.

“It’s great to pick up the win and score a few goals and all 14 players were excellent.

“There’s a buzz around the club now and the atmosphere in the bar afterwards was excellent. We need to build on this and move forward now.”

Blues went ahead after just four minutes when a corner fell to Dale Campbell on the edge of the penalty area and his shot was turned home by James Bennett.

Ferring had a couple of half-chances before Rustington doubled their lead three minutes before half-time. Gav Heater beat his man and curled a shot into the top corner from 20 yards.

Blues added a third just six minutes into the second half when Liam Waller beat the offside trap, rounded the keeper and slotted home.

Waller scored his second from the penalty spot on 64 minutes after substitute Brad Walkling was tripped.

Rustington keeper Gareth Challen made a couple of excellent saves, before the hosts got a fifth – the 112th goal Ferring have conceded in ten league matches this season – when Campbell got through, rounded the keeper and tapped home on 77 minutes.
