Five-star Rye go marching on

Rye United continued their free-scoring form with another goal-laden victory on Tuesday night.

The Quarterboys followed up their 6-0 win at the weekend by triumphing 5-3 away to Crowborough Athletic in Sussex County Football League Division One.

Although Crowborough opened the scoring, Rye surged into a 3-1 lead by half time thanks to the finishing of Phil Rhodes, Liam Upton and Luke Woodley.

Wes Tate looked to have put the result beyond doubt with number four only for Crowborough to claw their way back to 4-3 before Sam Adams added a late fifth.

It was Rye’s fifth successive win in all competitions and keeps them a point behind leaders Pagham, who won 7-0 away to Worthing United.

Elsewhere on a windy night, a depleted Westfield side lost 4-1 away to an Eastbourne United AFC team which before kick-off was bottom of Division Two.

Full reports on both matches will appear in Friday’s Observers.
