Footballers of the future play on Bognor's perfect pitch

A FOOTBALL academy held their first festival of football at the Rocks' Nyewood Lane ground and played matches against local sides and academy teams from Maidstone, Shoreham and Eastbourne.

All Stars Soccer was formed in September last year by Rocks manager Jamie Howell and Selsey boss Adam Hinshelwood, who believed there should be more young players from the area developing and playing higher up the football pyramid.

Howell said: “We were delighted with the standard of football on display.

“It gives local players great exposure by playing excellent teams from different areas and provides players the opportunity to be looked at by professional clubs.”

The boys were delighted to play on the beautiful playing surface at Nyewood Lane – something Howell and Rocks general manager Jack Pearce were pleased to offer.

Howell added: “The club need young local players who want to play for their home club, so the more we can do at a early age for these kids will benefit the club in the future.

“All Stars gives these players the opportunity to be coached in Bognor’s style of play from a very young age. Hopefully players will play at the very highest level but it will be great if in the future we see a Bognor side packed with players from Bognor and the surrounding area.”
