Former Tottenham and Southampton striker Barnard signs for Braintree

Former Crawley Town striker Lee Barnard has signed for National League side Braintree Town.

The former Tottenham youth and Southampton star has joined them after being recommended by Braintree legend and former Brighton player Alex Revell.

Barnard, 31, joined Crawley in July 2015 and made 31 appearances, including 14 stars and scored one goal.

He was released by Reds at the end of the season.

During his Football League career he scored 78 goals in nearly 200 appearances.

Delighted Braintree manager Jamie Day said: “Lee’s got bags of experience, played plenty of League football and scored nearly 80 goals at that level.

“He’ll be a great addition to the squad and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
