Four-goal Rye unbeaten in 10

Olly Lockyer gave Rye a half time lead and Dominic Clarke doubled their advantage early in the second period. Late goals from teenage prospect Josh Pickering - his first for the front side - and Andy Atkin sealed the points.

Rye are now up to fifth in Sussex County Football League Division One - nine points behind leaders Peacehaven & Telscombe with a game in hand - and are the joint second highest scorers with 92 league goals.

Elsewhere in the same division, Sidley United’s run of five wins in six games was ended by a 2-0 loss against East Grinstead Town. Two goals in the last 15 minutes proved Sidley’s undoing in a home fixture switched to Grinstead’s ground on Saturday morning because the Gullivers pitch was unfit.

Bexhill United suffered a seventh successive defeat in Division Two following a 2-1 reverse at home to Steyning Town. Josh Elliott-Noye’s header gave Bexhill a half time lead, but Steyning levelled early in the second period and grabbed a winner 15 minutes or so from time.

Lady luck frowned on Westfield after their clash away to Storrington was abandoned due to the very wet conditions early in the second half. Westfield were 3-0 up at the time thanks to goals from Ross Williams, Tom Archer and Gordon Cuddington.

The result will not stand, however, and instead Westfield will have to make the long journey all over again on Saturday April 27. It also means they will have four games in the last eight days of the season.

Little Common’s game at home to Southwick was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and has been rearranged for Wednesday night. Eastbourne United AFC - the team Common are vying with for third place in Division Two - came from behind to win 3-1 at home to leaders Littlehampton Town.
