Three unanswered strikes during a dominant second half display on Saturday gave the Pirates a 4-1 victory in Macron Store Sussex County Football League Division Two games this term.

Bexhill manager Marc Munday: “They’re a good outfit Oakwood and they’re up there so I was really pleased with the performance and result. It was a deserved, comfortable win and it’s up there with the best performances of the season.”

The visitors started strongly and drew first blood in the seventh minute. The dangerous Corey Wheeler was cleaned out in the box - so much so that he was dazed for the rest of the half and was substituted at the break - and Chris Cumming-Bart converted the subsequent penalty.

Oakwood got back on terms during a 10-15 minute spell at the end of the half in which they put Bexhill under a bit of pressure. Jamie Lovegrove picked the ball up 25 yards from goal and skipped past a few defenders before finding the bottom corner.

Bexhill played with quite a strong wind behind them and down the slope in the first half, and a number of forward passes just eluded the forwards, but Munday was quite happy with the way his team was playing.

Munday felt that Oakwood would come out strongly in the second period with the wind and slope in their favour, but Bexhill pressed higher up the pitch and took command of the contest.

Bexhill went back in front through Kevin Barden, who lifted a good finish over the outcoming goalkeeper from 20 yards after Josh Pickering’s flick left a defender trailing.

Munday then brought himself on for Barden and flicked the ball on for fellow substitute Scott McDonald to slot home Bexhill’s third goal with one of his first touches.

Cumming-Bart put the icing on the cake with a fine solo goal, his second of the afternoon. The midfielder ran at the Oakwood defence and went on the outside of the last defender before firing into the far bottom corner.

Oakwood had a couple of chances from set-pieces in the second half, one of which saw the ball hit goalkeeper Yankuba Camara in the face and Munday toe it over the crossbar from almost on the line.

Bexhill: Camara, Cooper, Ottley, Elliott-Noye, Cruikshank, J. Aston, Pickering (McDonald), Cumming-Bart, Barden (Munday), G. Aston, Wheeler (McMinigal).
