Wick 0 Loxwood 1

Loxwood are in eighth place in Division 2, 13 points behind the third-placed club following their 1-0 away victory against Wick on Tuesday night.

A 27th minute header by former Horsham hero Eddie French was enough to earn them the three points.

Corithian Casuals defender and coach Kristian Sorensen step in at centre half and played well alongside French.

Secretary George Read praised the 30-something player for his athletic ability in scoring the goal.

He said: “Eddie got up to it well and doesn’t score many with his head - it was good as he’s been around a long time and has has overcome some nasty injuries.

“Sam Smith in goal had a great game, making two good saves. In the midfield Matt Merridew and Louis Scally both gave 100 percent, as did Claude Pett.

“Phil Awcock has been at the club longer than I have and has played in most positions and as usual he enjoyed a good game at full-back, holding his own throughout.

“The referee had a bad game and it was surprising he did not give a penalty when Elliott Hawkes was dragged down in the area.

“We were on top in the first half but in the second half we didn’t perform as Wick had a few chances and put us on the back foot. To a neutral a draw was a fair result and we were certainly relieved to come away with all three points.”
