The position was advertised in The Non-League Paper last weekend and Ormerod says ‘five or six’ applications have come in off the back of the advert.

The deadline for applications is next Friday (May 13) and interviews with selected candidates are expected to start the following week.

“Hopefully most of the players will stay, but possibly there will be more of a focus on youth next season,” said Ormerod.

The vacancy arose after previous incumbent Garry Wilson, along with assistant manager Danny Bloor, stepped down at the end of the 2015/16 season 12 days ago. United finished seventh in Ryman Football League Division One South - two points and two places outside the play-off spots.

Hastings United, meanwhile, will hold an end-of-season presentation evening in The Pilot Field clubhouse this coming Saturday, 7.30pm start.

Business partners and other sponsors, volunteers and supporters are all welcome to join the players and management team for what is sure to be an entertaining evening. Admission is free.

The awards for player of the season and goal of the season will be formally handed out, and there will be a number of other presentations as well.

Refreshments will be provided and there will be music courtesy of DJ Dan Willett. The evening will be hosted by Liam Willis on behalf of the supporters’ club.
