Futacs: Three-sy does it

The Hungarian scored Saturday’s winner at Doncaster – deep into stoppage-time at the Keepmoat Stadium – to cap a remarkable comeback.

Heading into the 90th minute, Michael Appleton’s men were tumbling into League One on the back of a 3-2 defeat.

But substitute Dave Kitson levelled before Futacs struck a left-foot finish three minutes into time added on.

It means Pompey’s faint hopes of remaining in the Championship continue into Crystal Palace’s visit tomorrow night.

And the towering striker is seeking more victories as the Blues attempt to close the seven-point gap to Bristol City in the final three matches.

Futacs said: ‘We believe. We have to believe for the club and the fans and this result can be a lift.

‘Doncaster was a very, very important game.

‘We did great in the second half and I was happy with the win.

‘It was amazing for me, I don’t even know how the ball came to me or how it happened, I just saw the goal and scored.

‘We must just think now about winning the next game.

‘On Saturday, the gaffer told us it didn’t matter what was happening around us, we have to keep focused on ourselves and our games.

‘I didn’t know the Bristol City result until after the game. We must play for ourselves and play for the fans.

‘Palace is going to be a tough game but with our fans there we can do it.

‘We have to do it and will keeping giving our all for the last three games.

‘These are matches we need to win.’
