Game on at The Pilot Field

Hastings United’s game at home to Lewes this afternoon (New Year’s Day) will go ahead.

The Ryman Football League Premier Division fixture is definitely on despite the latest band of heavy rain yesterday afternoon and evening.

United’s award-winning groundsman Simon Rudkins wrote on social network site Twitter this morning: “Pitch has stood up well to the rain last night. No inspection required. Game between @hastingsufc and @Lewes_cfc is on. Kick off 3pm”

After six successive league draws, the U’s will be gunning for victory in an East Sussex derby at The Pilot Field.

The U’s are fourth-from-bottom of the table, but a win today would put them within four points of 13th-placed Lewes having played five fewer matches.

The sides have met once at The Pilot Field already this season with United winning a Ryman League Cup second round tie 1-0 thanks to a spectacular effort from Scott McDonald.

It will be United’s final outing before they head to Championship high-flyers Middlesbrough in round three of the FA Cup on Saturday and any supporters still wishing to buy tickets for The Riverside will be able to do so from 1pm.
