BRIGHTON extended their unbeaten run in the Championship to nine matches after an impressive win over Ipswich last Weekend. Gus Poyet’s men quickly put behind them the (largely self-inflicted) FA Cup mauling at Liverpool to move into seventh spot and right into the thick of the promotion race.
The Seagulls are 80/1 with BetVictor to win the title and only 9/1 for promotion and, with only nine points separating the top eight teams, it promises to be a very interesting and exciting climax to the season. Brighton look eye catching value at 7/4 to win at Doncaster this Saturday with Rovers propping up the League and staring relegation in the face.
January 2nd was the last time they tasted victory in a 2-0 win over Barnsley and they are 1/5 to be playing League One football next term. They too can be backed at 7/4 to beat the Seagulls and its 23/10 a draw but it’s hard to see why Albion are not clear favourites to win at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Ashley Barnes netted twice against the Tractor Boys to take his season tally to eleven and is 11/2 to open the scoring at Doncaster. The Seagulls seem full of goals at present and, with a strong looking bench to call on; this could prove pivotal in the final run in. Over 2.5 goals is 21/20 and both teams to score 5/6 in a game when the draw doesn’t really suit either team. There are some fascinating games elsewhere in the Championship with Millwall entertaining form club Reading and crisis club Portsmouth hosting Middlesbrough in games that affect both ends of the table.
The teatime live fare between playoff chasing Leeds United and title chasing Southampton should be a treat with Albion fans even cheering Saints on here with Leeds breathing down Brighton’s neck!
The best is arguably saved till last with the Sunday lunchtime live game between Carling Cup runners up Cardiff and title favourites West Ham sure to have implications at the top. The away four timer pays £910 for a £20 stake at BetVictor and might appeal to those favouring the form teams. If you add Brighton in that bet, the return increases to a whopping £2,502!
In the Premier League Carling Cup winners Liverpool entertain Arsenal in a fascinating clash on Saturday lunchtime. The Gunners showed their vulnerability and attacking flair against North London rivals Spurs on Sunday but will not find the Reds as naïve defensively and Even money for Liverpool looks a fair price.
Also in the PL the Tyne-Wear Derby between Newcastle and Sunderland should be a cracker with the Magpies looking for the double on their local rivals following their 1-0 win back in August. The Geordies are 11/10 to maintain the bragging rights and that looks fair against the Black Cats who were dreadful against West Brom last week.
