A crazy five minute-spell in the opening 45 minutes saw Loxwood net three times on their way to a 3-1 victory.

After going three goals down inside 20 minutes, Golds were left with it all to do and couldn’t find a way back into it.

As well as Littlehampton’s defeat, Worthing United sealed a win to move above Ady Baker’s side in the table.

No team in the bottom five managed a victory on Saturday to ensure Golds remain four points clear of third-bottom Arundel and the final relegation spot having played a game more.

Baker was disappointed with his side’s display and felt a ‘freak’ five minutes ultimately cost them.

He said: “It’s not often you see three goals in five minutes and I think we struggled to get back in it after that.

“The first was wind-assisted and their third was a cross that went in.

“The conditions were really windy and difficult but Loxwood just adapted better than we did.”

After a bright opening 15 minutes, Golds found themselves a goal down.

Jordan Warren’s strike got caught in the wind, deceiving Luke Hutchings in Littlehampton’s goal, before going in.

Joel Colbran headed home from a corner two minutes later, then Byron Napper’s cross-shot found the top corner to complete a crazy five-minute spell.

Golds took some time to get going again but did create several chances in the second.

George Gaskin and Jack Newhouse both went close before the home side pulled one back late on.

Substitute Jack Cole netted two minutes into second half stoppage-time but that was too late for Golds to get back in it.
