Littlehampton lead the way by just a point, with six games left to play and they have a game in hand on second-placed Wanderers.

Golds boss Mark Bennett is refusing to look too far ahead and has told his side just to focus on their next match.

He said: “Results went our way on Saturday and we moved back to the top-of-the-table.

“We know now that if we want to go on and win the league, it is in our own hands.

“To be a point clear with a game in hand at this point in the campaign is fantastic.

“But we have won nothing yet and we all know that we must remain focused if we are to go on and win the title.

“The conditions were very hard on Saturday but the boys dug in and ground out the win.

“After going ahead, we failed to kick on and they levelled. Once we got the second, though, it never looked in doubt and it was another valuable three points.”

There was little in the way of goalmouth action in the first half on Saturday but Herbert fired the visitors in front two minutes after the break when he latched on to a Kieron Pamment cross.

Selsey’s response was almost immediate as a defensive mix-up allowed Tony Lempriere to net.

The Golds took the lead for a second time when Landais fired home his 36th goal of the campaign from just outside the penalty box.

Wiggans, who was making his first start in just over five weeks, made it 3-1 when he received the ball in his own half, beat four Selsey players and slotted into the net.
