Guernsey incentive for Rye

Rye United will entertain Guernsey in the last 32 of the FA Vase if they beat South Park on Saturday.

Sussex County Football League high-flyers Rye were due to host Reigate-based South Park last weekend, but the third round tie was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at The Salts.

A Ross Allen treble fired Guernsey to a 4-0 win against Erith & Belvedere. The Channel Islands outfit, who are in their second season of existence having been formed in 2011, are third in the Combined Counties League Premier Division having dropped only seven points from 15 games.

Rye chairman Clive Taylor and website manager Richard King actually went to watch Guernsey host South Park in the league on Saturday November 24 only for the match to be postponed.

Quarter-finalists in the prestigious national competition two seasons ago, Rye were knocked out in the second round this term before being reinstated after conquerors Amersham Town were discovered to have fielded an ineligible player.
