The 25-year old attacker, who has already scored 11 times this season for Bosham in division three, was making only his second appearance for City since transferring from Walton Lane.

His winner arrived in the 85th minute when he lobbed the ball over a crowd of players into the top corner to give Chichester the three points in a contest that had 0-0 written all over it for most of the afternoon.

City were forced to make changes early on with Peter Hibbert and Josh Case both picking up injuries. Julian Boniface and leading scorer Joe Gromett came on as replacements.

Gromett, playing for the first time since October after injury, came closest to breaking the deadlock when he sped away before having his shot blocked from a tight angle.

Arundel appeared to be holding on for a draw until Hartley’s killer blow late on determined the outcome.

CITY: Holden, Buckland, Bingham, Pearce, Hibbert, Boulton, Hartley, Case, Bush, Frangou, Smith. Subs: Gromett, Boniface.
