It’s been a superb season for all concerned with the side as they lost just two league games on the way to securing the title, winning 10 out of 14 and scoring 70 goals along the way.
A lot of that success has come from the attacking triumvirate of Dave Keane, Neil Simmons and Joe Brockes and they were at it again here, scoring all four of the Fatboys goals between them.
The sense of tension that was in the air lasted all of nine minutes before Brockes broke the deadlock, deftly curling in from 25 yards after collecting a knock down from Simmons.
The game continued to ebb and flow before Keane made it 2-0 on 22, volleying home from close range after Simmons had flicked on a superb cross from rampaging left back Jon Ballantyne.
Ten minutes later and it was 3-0, Ballantyne again dazzling the opposition with a powerful header that set Simmons away to lift over the Active goalkeeper.
The visitors pulled one back ten minutes into the second half but the three goal advantage was restored within 60 seconds, Brockes getting away down the right to cross to Simmons who bought the ball under control on his chest and hit a volley on the turn to finish with aplomb.
The Fatboys could have made the scoreline far more comfortable; Keane and Simmons both striking posts, Jamie Weston seeing a powerful free kick well tipped over and Jake Philpott going close with a trademark piledriver from all of 45 yards.
Club sponsors Keymer & Hassocks Social Club were kind enough to put on a champagne reception after the game for the victorious squad, at which Fatboys CEO Stuart Brown said: “This success couldn’t have happened without the holistic approach of everybody involved with the Fatboys.
“It’s been a massive team effort in which everybody has shown the right spirit and put aside personal preferences for the greater good, for example playing out of position at right back with no complaints in order to aid the team.”
“Next season I know manager Scott McCarthy and the players will be keen to kick on and hopefully both first and reserve teams can enjoy further success to help us to grow the brand.”
