Hastings away to Harrogate

Hastings United have been drawn away to Harrogate Town in the FA Cup second round proper.

It means that for the second successive round, Ryman League Premier Division outfit United will travel to opposition from Blue Square Bet North, which is one level higher up the non-league pyramid.

United midfielder Jamie Crellin wrote on Twitter: “Absolute dead draw but on the other hand winnable and then the big boys come in... Mixed emotions.”

Again it’s not the plum tie United would have wanted, but it does give them a chance of joining the Premier League giants in round three. The match will be played on the weekend of December 1-2.

Yorkshire-based Harrogate are 16th in Blue Square Bet North, three places above a Bishop’s Stortford side which United came from behind to beat 2-1 in the first round yesterday.

Harrogate caused one of the shocks of the round by winning away to a Torquay United team which lies seventh in League Two. Sky Sports chose to send their cameras to Harrogate to film the reaction to the live draw.

United, who have won through five rounds to reach round two for the first time, are the lowest ranked team already through to round two, although Slough Town, who face a replay against Mansfield Town, are the lowest still in the world famous competition.
