Hastings go nine points clear

HASTINGS United moved nine points clear of the Ryman Premier relegation zone with a 2-0 win at home to Tooting & Mitcham United.

First half goals from Bradley Goldberg and Zac Attwood ensured a comfortable night against third-from-bottom opposition.

The U’s opened the scoring after only 10 minutes when Goldberg scored at the second attempt after his initial effort had been saved by the goalkeeper.

Tooting also had the ball in the net early on but Reece Hall’s free kick - which might have taken a nick off Charlie Stimson - was ruled offside.

Hastings doubled their advantage midway through the half courtesy of a headed finish from Attwood after exchanging passes with Bailo Camara who had a lively debut after signing dual registration forms with Eastbourne Borough.

The home side should have added to their tally in the second half as Goldberg, Attwood and Danny Ellis all went close.

Hastings: Armstrong-Ford, Dixon, Whitehead, Carey, Manning, Jirbandey, Ellis, Crellin, Goldberg (Gonsalves 90+2), Attwood, Camara (Barham 89).

Referee: Graham Kane (Ditchling). Attendance: 323.
