Hastings held at home by Concord

HASTINGS United ended a run of three successive defeats with an ultimately frustrating 1-1 draw at home to Concord Rangers.

The point at least ensured the U’s remained out of the Ryman Premier relegation zone as the battle to avoid the drop really begins to hot up.

Elsewhere, results did not go Hastings’ way as Harrow Borough won 2-1 at Cray Wanderers and Leatherhead drew 2-2 away to third-placed Lowestoft Town.

Hastings’ match didn’t really get going until the second half when both sides went in search of all three points.

After failing to find the back of the net in their last three games, Hastings rediscovered their scoring touch on 54 minutes through skipper Josh Jirbandey who got on the end of a Lee Carey free kick.

The lead was wiped out just two minutes later when Carey was dispossessed in midfield by Tony Stokes who strode forward before shooting into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Bailo Camara thought he had restored Hastings’ advantage but the effort was ruled offside. Zac Attwood then struck the crossbar with a free kick before the same player fired across the six yard box.
