Hastings held in FA Trophy

HASTINGS United and Dulwich Hamlet meet again at The Pilot Field on Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm) after drawing 2-2 in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy.

The U’s looked to have booked a place in the next round when Fraser Logan scored nine minutes from time only for Lewis Gonsalves to equalise for the Ryman Division One South side.

An entertaining tussle got off to a flying start with two goals in the opening 10 minutes. Michael Owezu headed Hamlet in front before Michael Phillips rattled the crossbar and John Beales levelled things up with a header from Russell Eldridge’s corner.

Elsewhere, there were mixed fortunes for our County League sides in the second round of the John O’Hara League Cup.

Rye United progressed on the back of a 2-0 win over Hassocks, while Little Common went down 2-0 away to Mile Oak and Sidley United - who played most of the match with only 10 men following the sending-off of Sean Kelly - lost 1-0 at home to Seaford Town.

In Division Two, Bexhill United ran out 3-1 winners away to Worthing United and Westfield triumphed 2-0 against East Preston.

As well as Hastings’ Trophy rematch, other fixtures on Tuesday night see Sidley United entertain Littlehampton Town and Westfield visit AFC Uckfield, both in the second round of the SCFA RUR Charity Cup.
