Steve Cook claimed an assist for the winning goal as AFC Bournemouth pulled off a stunning 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

The 24-year-old defender’s shot from an 82nd minute corner was headed in by Glenn Murray, giving the Cherries what manager Eddie Howe described as the greatest result in their history.

Cook has been a regular in the Bournemouth starting line-up this season, making 13 league appearances so far and scoring one goal - a header in the 3-1 defeat away to Norwich City in September. Bournemouth lie 17th in the table - one place above the relegation zone.

Having joined the club from Brighton & Hove Albion on a permanent basis in the early part of 2012, Cook has helped Bournemouth clinch two promotions, firstly from League One in 2012/13 and then the Championship last season.

As a schoolboy Cook was part of a very strong ARK William Parker Academy team which won a national cup at the home of Premier League leaders Chelsea. That side also contained current Hastings United goalkeeper Josh Pelling.

Cook also played alongside present Hastings captain Ollie Rowe at Brighton and under manager Garry Wilson during a successful loan spell with Eastbourne Borough.
