Town suffered the big defeat to Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division side Molesey.

Andrews, who took over in the summer, said: “The league is always the priority but it’s never good losing so heavily although in reality it doesn’t make much difference in a knockout competition whether you lose 1-0 or 11-0. You still get knocked out.

Molesey won 9-0 the week before in a league game so the warning signs were there. They are a big, strong, physical team who moved the ball very well and with pace so for a fledgling team like ours who have only known each other for a couple of weeks it was always going to be a difficult task.”

And Andrews was pleased with some of the performances. He said: “That said there were some positives for me on Saturday. I thought a few of the boys did extremely well against the type of players they aren’t going to come up against every week. Josh O’Brien worked very hard in midfield and Pat Gannon in goal was superb even though the score line suggests otherwise.

“We also gave debuts to two 16 year olds from our youth team and neither let themselves down. We do need a bit more strength in depth and we are continually looking to add to the squad we already have, but we don’t need to push the panic button just yet.

“Once everyone we have signed is available at the same time we can assess how good or bad we are then but for the time being we will just keep on trying to improve ourselves and do as best as we can.

“I hope the boys will learn from Saturday and use the experience in a positive way.”
