And he believes there is no pressure on his side to win it.

With their 4-3 win over Crawley Down Gatwick at the weekend, Heath are now two points off Shoreham and Saunders believes, despite how well placed they are, the onus isn’t on them to go up.

He said: “We’re just taking it one game at a time, but I expect Shoreham to win it. We want to push them as far as we can.

“The beauty of it for us is that we aren’t under any sort of pressure.

“The club are putting no demands on us to make sure we go up this year.

“It was always a five year plan and I’m in my second season, so we’re well ahead of the game. This year was all about consolidating and getting the ground grading for the next step.”

Heath have added forward Billy Medlock and keeper Josh James, both from Burgess Hill Town, for the run in and Saunders believes they will add quality to the side, although Medlock won’t be available every game.

“They’ll both bring real quality.

“Josh had made us aware that he was leaving Burgess Hill, and I had a good chat with him.

“Josh couldn’t commit to playing in the Ryman League due to work commitments.

“Billy is another one who had originally written this season off due to work commitments but I asked him to do us a favour and sign.

“He’s not available every game, but when he is available he will definitely come in to the mix. They’ve both done us a favour.”

Up next for the Blues is a huge game at the top, as they face Chichester City at home this weekend.

Chichester are currently third, three points behind Heath, although the Blues have a vastly superior goal difference.

Saunders believes that the opposition possess real quality and that they will pose a huge test for his side.

He said: “I’m sure no one would have expected us to be two points off top with eight games to go at the start of the season.

“They’re a really good side, they aren’t out of the title race by any stretch of the imagination.

“We won’t know until Friday whether Naim (Rouane), Kane (Louis) or George (Hayward) will be able to make it. Other than that everyone’s good to go.”
