But Steve Isheroowd, who was voted in on Thursday last week, also believes the club is a sleeping giant and has huge potential.

Isherwood, who used to run the junior section at Hanbury, took over from Mick Cottingham and he could not be more happy to take on the role.

He told Middy Sport: “It is an honour and privilege to be given the chairman’s role and although there is a massive amount of work to do behind the scenes it is a challenge that I am really looking forward to and will tackle head on.”

And when asked whether he thought of the club as a sleeping giant, he said: “Most definitely – we have a massive catchment area in comparison to some of the teams around us and even above.

“We are looking to foster a more community based spirit and have already started rolling out a few initiatives with the youth system.

“I see no reason why in time we cannot compete at Conference South level if we are able to realise our plans , consolidate this season, look to compete at the top of the table next and push on from there ”

Isherwood believes having Shaun Saunders back at the helm, replacing Lloyd Cootton, will help settle the team and the club as a whole. And it was also a key part of Isherwood taking the chairman’s role.

He said: “The club desperately needed some stability, an experienced head that commanded respect in the game and one of the most important things at this level – a good list of contacts.

“Shaun’s return was a key component of me taking up the role at the club . It is for these reasons and that he has a genuine passion and love for the club.”

After the appointment, a club spokesman said: “These appointments have been welcomed by the committee and hopefully we can now move forward after several weeks of confusion.

“Regarding Lloyd Cotton - he was not “sacked” but he was offered to stay on as assistant manager as previously and stay on as a player but he declined and the club still holds his Isthmian League registration.”

Heath face Welwyn Garden Ciity in the FA Trophy on Saturday.
