Heartache for luckless Hastings

Hastings United suffered an agonising defeat for the second successive Tuesday night.

The U’s conceded two late goals to go down 2-1 at home to play-off hopefuls Kingstonian in the Premier Division of the Ryman Football League.

Both sides hit the post during a goalless first half before George Porter gave Hastings the lead on the hour when he intercepted a back pass and rounded the goalkeeper.

Kingstonian equalised in the 88th minute as Mo Harkin’s intended cross sailed straight in, but Hastings thought they should have been awarded a penalty in the third minute of added time when Porter went down in the box.

Nothing was given, though, and to make matters worse, Kingstonian were given a spot-kick in the seventh additional minute for handball by Sean Ray. Bobby Traynor tucked it away to steal the points for the visitors.

Hastings (4-5-1): Barton; Rowe, Ray, Jirbandey, Storrie; Adams, Olorunda, Carey, Eldridge (Hall 73), Billings; Porter. Subs not used: Pogue, Manning, Sutton, Chalmers-Stevens.
