The former Blues favourite has offered to bring current club IBV over for a friendly next month.

Hreidarsson has been manager of the Icelandic side since September, following a stint training with Pompey.

Now, after approaching the Trust, he has agreed to a fund-raising fixture against Pompey at Fratton Park on Tuesday, April 16.

The 38-year-old Hreidarsson intends to pull on the boots again and take part in the match by featuring for IBV.

The defender made 123 appearances and scored eight goals for Pompey during four-and-a-half seasons, establishing himself as a popular figure. He also helped Pompey win the FA Cup in 2008.

But Hreidarsson feels he never properly said goodbye to the fans after joining Coventry in January 2012 – five months following his last Pompey appearance.

And money raised from the fixture will go towards the Trust’s ongoing bid to own Pompey.

Trust spokesman Colin Farmery said: ‘As part of IBV’s pre-season programme, Hermann wants to bring his team over to Fratton Park for a friendly.

‘For him it is the chance to say goodbye to the fans as he never felt he had a proper opportunity to do so.

‘He also wants it to be a fund-raising game for the Trust’s community bid.

‘That would see all profit made from staging the game going towards obtaining a giant community share in the Trust, making it the biggest syndicate of the lot.

‘That means anyone who attends will have helped the Trust raise money.

‘The match will be priced competitively and, in addition, we are hoping to host a question-and-answer session with Hermann the day before.’

IBV are based in Vestmannaeyjar, off the south coast of Iceland.
